Approved online for natwest basic account, declined via letter?!

Hi all,

 

I applied for a natwest basic bank account. All I wanted as no credit checks are performed and I want a basic account. Applied online, got approved, received another letter for me to bring in passport and proof of address. Did as letter asked. I received a letter today stating: We're sorry but we can't help you at this time. As part of their responsibilities they use standard checks and on this time I don't meet the criteria needed to approve this."

This doesn't make sense, basic bank accounts are available to everyone I thought, and to say approved on the online application then refuse me two weeks later dont make sense. Any advice appreciated

Do you have any debts with LTSB , Halifax or Royal Bank of Scotland ?

 

You could try the Co-op or Nationwide

The Co-op like any other bank has good and bad reviews. From what I read in the forums they are one of the better ones and there would need to be a darn good reason for them not to provide at the very least a Basic Bank Account.

I applied 13 days ago for a co - op basic account (I have a current account with Barclays but they're ****) and was accepted 4 days later by 'phone and had my papers a couple of days later. I should add that since taking my Barcs account my credit history has gone downhill severely and I had even expected to be knocked back by the co op.
