I came in contact with another car in a supermarket car park the other day, the other car was stationary in fact the driver wasn't even in it.The resulting slow speed comming together resulted in a scratch in the paint of the other cars bumper. I gave the driver my details, home phone, reg number and the name of my insurance company though I did not know the policy number... who dose? I asked her to get a price for the repair and give me a ring. I had intended just to give her the money to cover the cost of the repair however the price she had got which was from a "Toyota Main Dealer" was in my view excessive and included a hire car. The other driver was an elderly lady and I'm not at all trying to evade paying for her repair but I do feel as though I'm being ripped off... any of the "Chips away" type specialist repair companies could put this right at her home without the need of a hire car and I'm sure the £180 repair should have been nearer to £70..... What can I do to get a fairer price for the repair?

To be honest with you, £180 would seem reasonable to me to re-paint a bumper. Obviously we don't know how bad the scratch is or how old the car is, but if it is a new car then under the warranty, it may have to be repaired or approved at a main dealer.

I had the n/s rear wheel arch 'scratched' on a supermarket car park once and the quote was almost £300 to have it repaired to have it done properly. The person responsible though wan't as decent as you and didn't leave me any details just their red paint on my car.

Some scrote keyed my car on thursday night. Its nothing flash, its a 2012 toyota auris that isnt even 3 weeks old yet.....and they have keyed the full length of the passenger side just for sh*ts and giggles. I dont earn massive wages, and i need a decent car to get to and from work as its some distance so its not like i can "afford it". A chip/dent man came to look t it yesterday and unfortunately it wont buff out....its a full respray and an insurance claim.....well done on being honest, wish there were more like you!
