I have 3 defaults on my credit file in total. One with Halifax dating back to November 2007 this was made up of charges and ppi which totalled the whole amount, which they used to settle the account. Another is with Barclays for an overdraft default date is Nov 2008 Barclays removed all the charges 3 times (claimed back in 2007,8 and 2012) a grand total of 4400 claimed back on a 2200 overdraft, I was with them for a number of years until I had to move accounts because they kept taking all my money. They recently gave me a settlement figure of 400 on the overdraft which I paid but they refuse to remove the default even though they removed charges of 2000 this year and 700 in 2008 which is more than the overdraft or default. I would never have defaulted if I hadn't had so many charges. My 3rd and final default is with citifinancial for a loan, the amount was for 67 pounds. They refuse to look at ppi charges, they ignore me or ask for the account number which I no longer have. They refuse to do anything. I think all the defaults are unfair and I want to clean up my credit file so I can get a mortgage later this year when I have some savings behind me. I've paid off all my debts and now have a credit card which I use every month and pay off 85% of the balance every month, to try and rebuild my poor credit score. I know that mortgage companies will take one look at 3 defaults and refuse me. I'm working so hard at clearing my records. What shall I do?

I don't want to seem harsh but the removal of these defaults is

not going to dramatically improve your chances of getting a mortage,

lenders are looking to around 6 years clear and good creit management.

Your only route here it to make formal complaints to each creditor/DCA

giving your reasons and evidence for wanting the entries removed.

I have seen today a well paid affluent person declined a small mortagage

because of a £58.00 default.

Thanks I was hoping if I made complaints ans was successful at removing the defaults I might be able to improve my credit file over the next 9 months with my capital one credit card

You are certainly on the right track with the credit card idea.

( months might be too optimistic even if the defaults are removed.

This is so nuts; what on earth the housing market will be like over the next couple of years is scary...no-one able to get a mortgage.

Successfully claimed back mis-sold PPI (Barclays Bank) 2009-10 (£8500)

Ran a paid-for DMP. Deeply respect those who self-manage a DMP; it is possible to do with the help of fellow CAGGERS

Offered F&F to all my creditors. All closed out including a particularly intransigent and stubborn one - who eventually saw sense after 10 months of nonsense!

Does not condone debt avoidance but violently disagrees with the antics of debt collectors and their behavior towards the ones trying to pay. I am a great believer in what goes around, comes around. Keep up the good fight!

Would just like to say that I had the same problem with defaults on my account. Please be aware that it is practically impossible to get a default removed so to get 3 of them removed would be a challenge indeed. Sorry if this is not what you want to hear but it is a difficult process. I have successfully managed to get a default removed from a Payday loan company - I was in the right and the default should never have been applied - this took me 18 months and weekly phone calls etc. As stated this is for a default that shouldn't have even been on there, if the company believes it to be correct then i am afraid it will remain for 6 years. I have been left unable to get a mortgage as I have one remaining default for the amount of £110!!!! I cannot get this removed no matter what I do and I have now exhausted all avenues. I wish you better luck than me....... please keep us updated.
