My son purchased a vehicle from a dealer on auto trader. Seemed ok on the test drive but now he has found that the seller has been a little sneaky and taped over the abs symbol on the dash which was permanently on ! Garage said its ok to drive but the abs wont work without it going for a repair which will be expensive I used paypal as part payment for the car as my son couldnt get all the amount together to pay outright from his bank I have since found that I cannot open a dispute with paypal as there is no protection for vehicles paid for with this method. I dont know where else to go with this now apart from the garage as it wont pass the next MOT unless its fixed. Any help please?

Ah OK I can only really help with VWs. Regardless of how you paid you may be able to pursue this, google SOGA 1979 and have a read. Did you definately purchase from a dealer?

We purchased it on the 18th Feb, we went to collect the car from the sellers house as it was closer for us, he told me he had a business selling used cars, but i now think maybe it isnt true! how gullible am I . My son discovered the problem a week later when the handbrake light kept coming on and he investigated it.

Don't ever think of yourself as gullible when talking used cars. They are do complicated that it is easy to stear buyers away from problem areas and pull the wool over their eyes.

Even professionals in the car trade get fooled.

You first recourse is to contact Autotrader and get a copy of the advert if you haven't still got the original magazine you bought from.

Pm coming Delilah, I need some personal details.
