Hi there Ive been on the phone to GE money regarding a loan from first national tricity finance from around 1999 - 2002. They told me they had no information about me at all and that Santander had bought over all their loans up to 2006 and that I would have to contact them. I now have at least six different numbers for Santander so I dont even know where to start. I am trying to claim against First National Tricity Finance, Blackhors, and Welcome Finance but was told by a PPI company that as these companies were not regulated at the time I cant claim against them. Apparently you can only claim against companies that were regulated at the time. Does anyone know anything about this or if I would have a claim? I contacted the fsa and they told me that I could claim from the companies underwriter. Im a newbie at all this so any help would be grateful. Thanks

Hello brighteyed newbie. Thanks for filling me in on why we are now in the dubious hands of Santander, my confidence in establishing a claim has certainly diminished somewhat with this news. I would imagine it would be well nigh impossible to determine the relevant underwriter and then persude them to cough up the readies. However, I have learnt from the bank charges fun and games to press on until the situation appears hopeless.

I am still awaiting the second response from Santander which may be some time because I replied to the GE Money data protection address so it is likely to go round the houses again before it lands on an appropriate Santander desk.

Of the other six SARs despatched, I have only had a reply from HFC with a standard letter acknowledging receipt and stating that they were on the case. Still, it's early days yet and hopefuly I should be be knee deep in returned SARs in the not too distant future ....

I telephoned santander today and they checked their system and alas my records were not there so they asked me to put it in writing so they could check the archive system. Usual fob off reply I presume but they didnt mention having to pay for the info. How do I go about getting the £10 back once I send them the SAR? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi thank you, im kinda new to this and didnt want to cause any trouble. No I havent send any SARs yet but I have been phoning the companies and they have told me to put it in writing but never mentioned anything about having to pay for the information so im not too sure if they will even reply to me or not. I had originally contacted a PPI company and it was from them that I found out that they cant do anything with companies that were not regulated at the time so ive been phoning places just to see if I can manage to do it for myself.

Hi

It is best to follow a defined process with your claims i.e. send them a fos questionnaire (available from the fos website) and a spreadsheet showing the amount you are claiming.

In order to do the latter you would ideally need all statements for any credit card claim and the loan agreement and statements for loan claims.

If you don't have this information then a SAR to each lender is he best course of action. In the ones for loans, add a paragraph that the SAR is to include copies of all and any loan agreements.

From the information that comes back it should be possible to prepare your claims.

Sadly phoning the companies will not necessarily reveal the whole truth as to whether you had PPI but a SAR requires information to be provided under the DPA.

The course I have described help to avoid them turning round and fobbing you off, so always best to do it properly

Thats great I will do that. So how do I send the money does it have to be postal order or cheque? Either will do And once Ive done this how do I claim it back? As in post #6...prepare spreadsheet and fos questionnaire and submit them to the lender with a brief covering letter requiring refund
