Hi

Ive had loads of help on this site from Ell-en in the repossesions , but now im asking for some info for a friend.

She and her husband are self employed but the last year they have lost a lot of their business and there is now no work for her better half .

They are in reciept of working tax credit and she earns only about 60 pounds a week .

They luckily have help with the mortgage from their parents but need to sort things out .

She spoke to the benefits peopl today and is totally confused as to wat benefit he should apply for

The lady on the phone said not income support and not contribution based jsa .. does anyone have any advice for her please

they would also need to try to get help with mortgage payments ..

thank you in advance for any advice

If he's entitled to income-based JSA then he would also be able to make a claim for mortgage interest payment as well. Whether or not JSA(IB) would be available depends on their total income as a couple, any savings they have, and so on.

Hi, any adivice please re JSA,I lost my job in Jan this year and finally been told I am entitled to JSA from Feb,the thing is it is just for me and I told them I am married and my wife can not work as she has a serious back problem and walks with a stick, she does not get any benefits at all as been told not entitled.I told the Job Centre all this, but they said she needs to sign on as well so we can get the married couples money.I s this right,as even if she did sign on she is not entitled to anything, seems mad to me.I have asked them but think we all know what the Job Centre/Jsa Is like!

Bobcat, please do not make any assumptions and lump all JCP employees in the same group, I work there and I like to think that I'm both friendly, approachable, relatively knowledgeable in most areas of the JCP and follow customer service.

Does you wife receive fit notes from her GP to state that her condition excludes her from working or is she claiming any DLA? She may be eligible for ESA in her ownright with a partner increase for you but will then be in the medical roundabout which I'm sure you have read about in other posts on this forum.

If you wish to continue your claim for JSA with the increase for your wife then you will need to make a joint claim and request an exemption based on her restrictions and medical condition.
