DLR Penalty Fare, IRCAS, Capital Resolve Debt Collect

Late last year I used the Tube/DLR.

Tube from North London to Bank,

I then DLR'd to another station but didn't tap out or back in again, as I didn't think I'd be long at all.

 

I thought I could get away with doing the trip on one fare (I had plenty of £'s on the Oyster)..

 

Instructor scanned me, asked where I'd been, said I had been on the train for a while picking up my girlfriend from another station,

he said you've been on over 2 hours, & give me my choices.

 

I said I'd appeal,

gave him my real address (but I'm not registered there)

he called someone & said nope, you're not at that address,

you have to pay the £25 now. I had the £25, I paid the £25, I kept the receipt.

 

letters started coming.

 

#1 Jan 3, Reminder, £50 from IRCAS

#2 Jan 23, Final Reminder, £50+£30 from IRCAS

#4 Feb 29, Debt Recovery Letter from Capital Resolve

 

I've paid my fine, on the spot, they've stuffed up

- but now they're getting someone from Capital Resolve to collect my "debt".

 

It's actually quite stressful, and if I hadn't kept my receipt of payment I'm sure that I would have been prosecuted by these guys.

 

If I snob the Debt Recovery, will they bother taking it further?

 

My first name & surname on the letters are close, but both are spelt wrong. (not that it affect the situation, or does it? I'm curious)

 

Just wondering what I should do though?

 

Should I contact DLR? or IRCAS or should I talk with the Debt Recovery ?

You should have written to IRCAS informing them that they were mistaken, with evidence and to leave you alone. Why you chose not to do this, I don't quite understand?

I suppose I was / am too stubborn. I paid my fine, so It didn't phase me until I received todays letter. I will write them.
