Hi Everyone,

I have a Land Rover Defender. Last week I took it in to Mr Clutch in Durham for a new clutch (the old one was slipping), they fitted the new one, I took the car out yesterday and the transfer box is rattling like crazy, the diff isn't locking and the whole car is shaking above a certain speed.

I called the garage yesterday who said bring it down and we'll have a look at it.

I've looked underneath the car and it looks like it was attacked by a 10 year old with a hammer.

The problem is I need to get it sorted, yet I don't want them to even touch my car again?

What are my rights? Can I get a refund?

Any advice much appreciated.

Sam

Essentially .......no. By rights you have to give them the opportunity to put the issue right. Some of the accusations are a bit iffy as well and easily defended if you ever went to court.

From what you describe it sounds like the diff lock is permanently engaged.

I would suggest you take it to a dealer whose name includes the words Valley near you and ask them to diagnose, not give an opinion as to the repair as they are two different things.

I would take it back and ask the manager to put it up on a ramp so you can show him your concerns and ask him what he is going to do about it. I don't think you have a case for a refund at this stage.
