First post so might get lost! My wife and I are both in receipt of DLA higher rate care and havent been able to work for several years now weve only just managed to get a computer and get online, so checked at directgov benefit adviserI then called the jobcentre plus helpline and was amazed to be told that we should have both been receiving severe disability premium at the enhanced rate AND that as we were never advised to claim this that it should be backdated to 2009!A very helpful lady at the call center said she would email the relevant department (also advising them to consider the backdating) they called back within 10 minutes said yes we should qualify for this pemium, then said"DONT KNOW ABOUT THIS BACKDATING THOUGH" and are sending an IS10 form. does anyone know if these things should be backdated please?? Any help/replys much appreciated - thankyou

If entitled you will get it backdated to 2009 or from whatever date you became entitled to it.

At the moment its £107 ish per week.

You are entitled to EDP as well couple rate....

I would see CAB you could be owed a lot of money

EDP is Enhanced Disability Premium, paid to those in receipt of DLA at the higher care rate. It's different from the SDP because it's (or should be) awarded automatically to those who receive the qualifying benefit, regardless of whether or not you have someone to care for you.
