Hi all

Does anyone know the correct procedure to follow? Should I simply write to them stating that now I'm over 60 I wish to cancel my loans? Do I wait till they write to me regarding deferment? Or is there a form?

All help welcome

Regards

Hi there,

You need to contact the Student Loan repayment team, and ask them what the correct procedure is. You might not be automatically free from the loan because you are over 60, you will need to find out what there terms and conditions were when you took the loan out. the regulations have changed alot over the years and it depends what cohort you started in.

Good luck,

The Dragon

Hi Dragon

Thanks for your interest, I have an update, looks on the surface to be very good news.

I have some loans with the Student Loan Company and some with Thesis. I phoned the student loan company to ask them what I should do, after identity and security checks they told me that the loans will be cancelled at the end of the month I reach 60, and that they will confirm when that has happened by letter.

Now for Thesis, I have out of the blue received a letter from Thesis saying: "In accordance with section 8 of your loan agreement, we write to confirm that your above referenced loan has now been cancelled and no further payments are due"

I hope this may help to put some peoples minds at rest.
