What you have heard is not quite correct. If you claim JSA (and only with JSA) and have left employment voluntarily, your claim may be subject to a sanction (where they do not pay benefit for a set period) for a maximum of 26 weeks - if and only if, the DWP decide that you have left your employment without good cause.

A sanction, as Nystagmite has pointed out, applies from the date you claim. So if you chose not to claim for a period of time, they could still apply a sanction when you submit your claim then, if you left your employment without good cause.

This link will take you to the CAG library where you can view the sanction guide in PDF format

If requested, I will provide a link where possible to relevant legislation or guidance, so that advice provided can be confirmed and I do encourage others to follow those links for their own peace of mind. Sometimes my advice is not what people necesserily want to hear, but I will advise on facts as I know them - although it may not be what a person wants to hear it helps to know where you stand. If a sanction is imposed it will be imposed for the following payment that is due to be recived and last anything from 2 to 26 weeks.

It is worth majkking the claim and if you are sanctioned you have the right to request a reconsideration and appeal if necessary and would be advised to claim for hjardship payments, nobody here can actually state catergorically that you will be sanctioned or not.

They will want to know why so that they can assess whether you had good cause to leave your employment - they may contact your employers and will give you the opportunity to tell them also.

i cant say why i resigned from work its confidential, not allowed to say why i left

So you have signed a non disclosure agreement with your former employer? If so this infers that you received a financial settlement.

You will be issued with form es84jp to take away and complete within 7 calender days before the case is referred to DMA for a decision, if you do not want or are not able to state your reasons then you can simply write that or not bother to return the form, but a decision will be made if you return the form or not, by completing the form yu do at least have an oppportunity to state you reasons behind your resignation.
