Last year I had a car accident which resulted in my car being ruled a write-off.

Now the tax-disc was returned to me pretty quickly but I didn't know that it needed to be returned prior to it expiring in order to claim the refund.

Anyway, due to one thing and another I forgot about until last month when I sorting through some old paperwork I came across it.

I've since sent it off and today have received the DVLA's reply which tells that they are unable to issue a refund.

I'm thinking of appealing as this was a genuine error and was wondering if anyone had come across similar instances where the motorist had been successful.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe not but I reckon they'd be able to check any vehicles tax history and verify that in a fair few cases they've been paid twice the tax for the same period of time.

And when told about a genuine oversight all you get is a standard reply pretty much telling you 'tough luck'.
