I have just returned from a holiday in Turkey to find that Orange have charged me over £3000 for data charges I didn't even know I had used. I don't use my android phone much for the internet but it appears that the phones can pull down data even if I don't know it is happening. My montly bill is usually £30. Can anyone help please?

I thought Orange send you a text and cut off your data usage once you run up £40, did with me in Italy earlier this year and I had to reply YES to a text message. Check on google as im sure there was some European legislation recently about charges. Also I believe there is a http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=53600973 page on here.

Having done a few checks, it appears that Turkey is NOT one of the countries where the cap applies.

This is the link to the charges for Turkey :jaw:

Orange have a page on twitter, they kinda announced they wanted to help CAG members and gave it up as a bad publicity stunt I think.

Read their complaints code here, but as far as the charges go they are unfortunately legal (as Turkey is not part of the EU).

If you had spoken to Orange before hand, they would've explained you need to turn your phone data off. I feel any progress that you make here will be by compromising. You could try Emailing the CEO of Orange [email protected]

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Or send a cheque or postal order payable to Reclaim the Right Ltd.

Click here if you fancy an email address that shows you mean business! (only £6 and that will really help CAG)

If you can't donate, please use the Internet Search boxes on the CAG pages - these will generate a small but regular income for the site

Hi

I am in the same boat. Went to toTurkey for my sons wedding. Didnot know what data roaming was or that it was on! Apparently Apps were updating every hour and I received a bill for £1139. Only found out when I checked my bank statement as I pay by direct debit. Didnt even have the money it came out of my overdraft. Have spoken to Orange with no luck and I am now awaiting reply to letter. From what I have read on the internet since I do not think I will have any luck.
