Bailiff charges

I will keep it brief, I did not pay my fine for using a mobile phone whilst driving which due to the non payment went up to £90 and now has gone to a bailiff who have added an £85 admin fee!! Can they do this as I feel their admin fee is excessive?

For what it is worth, IMO you broke the law, you pay the price.

If you can afford it and to avoid the bailiff adding more and possibly dodgy fees, I would pay up, and argue the toss later as you have 6 years to claim back any excessive fees.

 

Others will know more about what they can actually charge

Firstly I felt annoyed by your response but hey you have a point. I work hard 6 days a week & basically I forgot but I don't like having the **** taken out of by the bailiffs not you, lol!

TBH, I would pay up now and argue about it later. Think yourself lucky that you wernt given points on your licence. I would pay up and put it down to a lesson learned.

Your real purpose must now ge to prevent the bailiff ramping up more fees, which they will do without compunction, the only sure way is to pay them then you can check the site and HMCS for details of what bailiffs are allowed to charge. If you don't they WILL levy sieize and tow your motor without a thought adding more fees and taking the £175 up to £500 or so

Thanks for your response, I want to question the bailiff fees but did not know if I could once I had paid it. Now I know I can I have paid the full amount thanks to advice posted on here by people like yourself. Thanks again.

You can now research and query the fees, without fearing the bailiffs knock, and you have 6 years to do so. No one on here condones or supports bailiffs ripping people off with excesive fees, and the primary action for yourself had to be damage limitation.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but you still got away lightly. You were doing an extremely dangerous thing and think if you wasnt stopped when you did, further down the road could have caused a serious incident costing you a lot more than just bailiffs fees.. It has been an expensive lesson to have learned, I hope its not repeated in future and you stay safe
