Please don't shoot me down in flames, but this is a general comment on the number of posts where people have been ticketed where their Pay and Display tickets have either been blown off the dash, upside down etc.

Surely, when you place a ticket on your dashboard then close the door, it should just be a case of looking through the window as you lock the door to ensure it's being displayed properly.

There have been numerous times where I have closed the door causing a draught which has been enough to blow the ticket off the dashboard.

A couple of seconds to check prevents the enforcement officer issuing a penalty notice for not displaying.

Yes, you are dead right. But we are talking here about ordinary human behaviour, human error and honest intentions.

Parking regs are there to enforce a measure of social order in order to have cities which are not to unpleasant to be in - for the sake of the people who live there.

I think that the punishment-oriented automaton approach of public authorities has lost sight of their duty of humanity towards the population that they are meant to be managing and caring for.

I think that it would be far more decent and reasonable to apply a, say, £10 charge to someone who has caused problems by not being more careful about displaying their ticket and who has caused some trouble and cost to the enforcement authorities as a result.

In other words, if one can show a valid ticket for the period, they would only be required to pay a charge which is in the region of the administrative costs.

Councils would be far more popular if they were more humane on these kinds of issue.

Also, if there are that many problems, then clearly there is a design issue which could be resolved by using adhesive tickets.

I'll bet that there are pretty well zero problems with those

It's never happend to me. I always check to make sure that the ticket is in the correct position after closing the door. Personally i would of thought that it was the obvious thing to do but clearly i'm wrong. I also notice that most pay and display tickets now days are non-sticky and are for placing on the top of the dash board. Mind you, what happens if your windows are misted up or a tad on the dirty side?

It seems that where you live can have different outcomes.

Councils in the North tend to be more tolerant,see report here;

You'd be surprised how many people don't even bother using the sticky bit and just chuck the ticket on the dash.

The answer is buy a Skoda......

Skodas have a plastic clip fastened at the bottom corner of the windscreen for holding parking tickets!
