Terrible tragedy.

I can't believe how we moan about (and can't even cope with) a bit of snow, or rain.:|

If all else fails, kick them where it hurts and SOD'EM;)

The extent of all these natural disasters is very worrying.... they seem to be happening way to often around the world and we have no power to stop any of it.

I can't help thinking that the human race needs to wake up and learn lessons from this....

I agree lovely and dignified people.

I must admit I do not normally watch the news channels, but these last few days I have been glued to it, hoping to hear some good news of people being found.

They are going to need lots of help to get through this. Thing is I would have expected to hear an appeal had been launched etc on the tv like in other such situations.

Apart from being able to donate when used paypal to pay for ebay clothes, havnt seen anything else.

Hmmm.... bit of a sore subject; money going off to aid foreign disasters yet again..... when our own is in such a mess. I don't think there'd be many celebrity toffs/politicians brave enough to suggest it, to be honest.

**Edit**.... Apparently there is one for those who want to donate.... from the British Red Cross.... :-)

There isn't any money going over, it's a fairly rich country. The UK are sending two teams of search and rescue. They have the third biggest economy on the planet,

even though it's been struggling for the last 10 years. The donations are up to individuals.

I think the land mass misleads people into thinking there economy is small. Japan has physically moved 8 feet to the east

according to satellites.

That explains it. I must admit I didnt know they were such a rich country, thanks xx

From what I hear on radio and tv it seems to me some are now getting angry with japan for building such plants when at risk of earthquake or due to whats unfolding as we listen.

Hope they leave these discussions to when the situation is under control, as there are many people suffering over there, who dont need to hear the media report such comments at the moment.

These plants have been at the heart of Japans economy,it is easy now for those criticising. The designs are the same as many currently operating across the US.The UK rejected this design back in 1972 amid advice following consultations.

The bottom line is that the plants are safe....it is outside unexpected elements that give rise for concern and worry.

In the 90s and early 2000 the UK had many alerts following terrorist threats.

In fact in 2002 the Irish Gov purchased and stockpiled PI for its people after a tip off that Sellafield was on the IRA hit list.

Globally, these remain much more of a worry than Tsunamis or earthquakes, but more importantly are much less predictable in terms of early warmings.

Sadly we also see the ambulance chasers ready to cash in on other peoples misfortune.

The scares in Northern America about the jet stream carrying radiation, and widely thought to be happening soon, has prompted a scramble for Potassium Iodide.

In 2008,Bush revised policy for distribution of this in favour of evacuation programmes.

It has led to massive demands and heavy price increases overnight.

2 weeks ago you could get a 60 tab bottle for around $30 tops now look at this;
