hi all im wondering if anyone can help.

i bought a car about 6 weeks ago, a V (99) reg car from a company called not just wheels in nottingham. the company specialise in paint, refurbs etc. but the guy also sells cars as well. i have an email from this bloke, richard munt stating that the car was 'perfect, mint' and other such stuff so i took a trip down (100 miles), turned out to be not quite mint and when i drove the car i heard a knocking which had 'only just started' (yeah right), coming from the front which he said was the engine mount. i also mentioned i could hear knocking from the rear which he dismissed. i told him i wasnt so happy buying the car as it wasnt what i expected so he offered me money off the car. i actually felt bad taking money from him so when he suggested that i get the car looked at and if it cost more than £40 to fix 'the knocking from the front', he would pay half i felt it was a good deal as who would make an offer like that if the car was an old knacker i thought. i got this promise in writing, with a signature and bearing the name 'not just wheels'. after spending £900 on the car initially then a few hundred more on trying to locate the knocking (two front wishbones which cured some of the knocking, broken front exhaust section with particulate filter cured some more) there IS knocking coming from the back in the form of a knackered rear axle. im just wondering where i stand in all this? if he sold me the car through his company, then do i have any rights to compensation or refund? the logbook still had the previous owners name and address on so i assume it was sold through trade as its an offence not to notify the dvla of change of ownership unless your trade and he told me the mileage was 20,000 miles less than it was which is illegal. do i have a leg to stand on? sorry for the looong post, hope i havnt missed anything! Rob. (i can prove all of these allegations without a doubt, i have emails, written signed receipt etc.)
