I have seen an email sent to someone at work recently, 1873% APR . .

You would get a better rate from organised crime. . . although things tend to get broken if you don't pay. .

I can top that - have a look at

1monthloan - 2335% APR

And what about this:

quickquid - "Depending on the loan term, typical APRs will range from 1351.7% to 9889.3%"

Have they no shame

I also found several web sites offering pay day loans that do not quote an APR at all. I've reported them all to Trading Standards via Consumer Direct - 0845 04 05 06

Wowzers..... if that were over a year that would be, assuming a sloppy check at CallCredit got you accepted, and I know payday loans like this are to be paid back usually within a month....... £3501.57 in interest based on the maximum £750 availiable, repayable at the meagre sum of 12 X £354.29.

Suprise, please can I ask what you found wrong with the Vanquis CCA .....

I too have a high interest rate credit card with them and I'm sick of getting hammered by Vanquis.... Im thinking of CCA'ing them also, so any pointers would be really handy...........

Thank You :???::?

They were very cunning - it was an application form which they tried to pass of as an agreement. There was a box which said This is a Credit Agreement regulated by the Consumer Credit Act. Sign it only if you want to be legally bound by its terms. Then below it was Please sign in the white box above we CANNOT process this application without your signature, there was a big black arrow pointing to the box.

I had them on the fact that you cannot sign an agreement before it has been credit scored. I also, stated that if this went to court it was flawed as they had contradicted themselves and had misled the consumer. I had my charges refunded and interest frozen. I was happy to pay back what I had received.

I have a Vanquis credit card limit of £1,000 some months I pay it all off some months only £100 or £200, I havent tried applying for any others because up until 4 years ago I had a not very good credit history. I am quite happy with the card its better than none at all and very usful when we are on holiday as there are lots of countries where you can use visa but not a debit card.

If I have been of any help, please click on my star and let me know, thank you.

Hi everyone, I read this with great interest a I have just heard from this company.

A year ago I had NO credit history always used cash, then I was taken ill and now I am at home all the time. I tried to get a credit card but was refused so I found Capital one and got one of their visa cards.

I was looking for a real one this year so tried Virgin (NBNA) A week later Vanquis rang me saying I was refused by Virgin but they could help me. I said ok I thought 2 cards on my record if paid back in full would help my credit score.

They wanted to do another credit check Virgin had just done one so I said no and said why I never wanted another search on my record. Man said ok I will delete this application and hung up.

A week later I have a letter from them saying I have been approved and to sign the credit agreement and send back and they will send my card.

As far as I know they did NOT do a credit search I never gave my permission for them to do one.

I read above they have done this type of thing before sign the credit agreement then do a credit score.

IF I did take this card I would only use it for small amounts and pay back fully every month. Now I am not so sure if even that is a good idea, I may just stick with capital one.

Sorry for the long post but it may be of interest to someone else reading this thread.

Hi Bob

Welcome to CAG

I think wghat surprise saysis right. If a comapany behaves like this, completely ignoring your requests, it is best to keep well away - they will only get worse.

I would get rid of this card straight away. They would give one to my neighbours dog, if they could get him to sign the agreement.

If you really need another card to rebuild your credit history, why not try a top up card like Quidco. . .

Any spare cash you have you can top up the card with, and use when needed if you have no ready cash on you.

Hi again heres an update to my problem with Vanquis

I just rang them and asked why they had sent the credit agreement and IF they had done a credit search and score.

They said your they did a search and its been recorded..

I said I did NOT agree to the search infact I said I did not want another search on my record and that their agent said he would have to scrap the application if I did not agree I said scrap it.

This chap jon the phone just now spoke to his boss and they would remove the search but I would then not get a card.. I said fine just remove the search off my record he said he would.

OK your help please do I have any rights to get this off my record if they dont do it? I never agreed to the search, what can I do now?

He said I could check my records but I know you need to pay for that..

I am really not happy with MBNA / Virgin for giving my details to the Vanquis company at all.

You could make a complaint to the Information Commissioner about both MBNA/Virgin and Vanquis for processing your personal data in violation of the data protection principles laid down in Scehdule I of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Letter:

Please note that I am only prepared to communicate with you in writing. Should it be your intention to arrange a "doorstep call", please remember that there is only an implied license under English Common Law for certain people to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v. Sheppard and Short Ltd [1959] 2 Q.B. 384 per Lord Evershed M.R.).

Please therefore take note that, I revoke license under English Common Law for you, or your representatives to visit me at my property and if you do so without my permission, you will then be liable to damages for a tort of trespass. You would also be conspiring in a trespass if you sent someone to visit me nevertheless.

Hi Can anyone help? My friend has phoned me this morning i a right state. She has a Vanquis card and owes £1500. She has had her hours reduced at work and simply cannot afford the re-payments on her card. She has been in contact with the CAB and they helped her come up wit an expenditure chart and all that gubbins to send to them along with a request to pay £10 per month until her circumstances change. They have sent her a letter this morning saying that they refuse her offer and they will be adding interest charges every month and will start court proceedings if she fails to pay up. She is also recieving between 6-10 calls a day from them. Where does she stand and what can she do? In case your wondering, she doesn't own a computer, thats why I'm posting this on her behalf. I have been helped enournously on this site with a Brighthouse problem so I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help her! Thanks :D Sonny Raul

They did exactly the same with me. However, I did two things I claimed back all the charges plus I requested a copy of my agreement. The agreement they sent me was unenforceable so I told them either freeze the interest or they could take me to court. They refunded all charges and they froze the interest.

I would see if whether there are any charges that she can claim back. I would also send a CCA request enclosing a £1 p/o make sure she doesn't sign anything. If the agreement is unenforceable then she has a good bargaining tool.

Hello i am a new member, in fact the first time i have been on a forum. I am unaware of your financial status but as i was bankrupted two years ago, iam now discharged, the vanquis as you point out does have a very high APR but as i wish to rebuild my credit history and there is nobody falling over themselves to offer another way. It has a use.

Just a warning to the vulnarable members who have had the great experiance of the Vanquis Credit Card aka provident finance in sheeps clothing, they are now advertising on FACEBOOK under an identity of "Huddersfield Credit Card" so be aware that it looks like our friends at Provident are mutating into new identities.

Is that because Vanquis have had poor media attention?

Surprise,

did you claim back your bank charges through the court or did they just refund the monies to you based on the letter you sent to them directly?

I had a Vanquis card and what I noticed was that their interest rate was going up every 3 months without prior warning. This also managed to send me over the credit limit hence getting £12.00 charges. I did a CCA request and I discovered that the credit agreement was unenforceable. On the basis of this I claimed back the charges and told them that I wanted the interest frozen so that I could pay this card off. If they didn't do this I told them they would have to take me to court for the balance. They did agree and I have been paying back what is owed with no more interest added.

Surprise,

if you don't mind telling us:

1) what was your balance at the time of the agreement to pay back without interest?

2) What was the repayment they accepted as I'm looking at proposing to pay £5p/m on my £500 balance? (Until I have lump sums to pay if off completely).

3) had they registered a default on your name at the time you reached the above agreement?:(

Missy
