Hello Team,

I thought i would just post this on here for people to see about the Vanquis Credit Card. I found a leaflet in a Cafe yesterday and was shocked to see how much their basic Credut Card interest is. Their website says 39.9% APR . .. The leaflet said 49.9% APR with a £2000 credit limit. This sort of thing should be stopped right now. Here is a snippet from their website about being responsible:

Vanquis Bank is a responsible lender and we provide our customers with support, education and help in controlling their spending. We do this by being transparent about our products and pricing, and providing high levels of customer service. Vanquis Bank is part of Provident Financial plc, a leading international company providing financial products to thousands of people across the world.

Vanquis Visa card is issued by Vanquis Bank Limited whose registered office is at Colonnade, Sunbridge Road, Bradford BD1 2LQ. Registered Number 2558509 England.

I love the bit about Educating customers and help in controlling their spending.

A Responsible Lender. If anyone has one of these cards please let me know how you sleep at night, because this to me, is extortion and they should be pulled up about it. Grrrrrrrrrr Grinds teeth in disgust . .

Go get em ..... ukaviator...

Hi Nightmare for banks.. These are indeed the Provident. They prey on people with bad or no credit rating. Just by posting this, i hope to spare someone some serious grief in the future. How many people on here understood APR and read the small print?. A lot more now i bet. Getting credit with this lot seems too easy. Loan sharks in a bigger building than Dodgy Dave around the corner..

Take care . .keep on at em .. Ukaviator

These are the people who pray on desperation, they had a collector to came to the pub where I worked to collect weekly 'loan' payments off people, all the blokes used to dive into the toilets when he came in and I had to keep a straight face and tell him I hadn't seen them!

Seems they've moved on a bit since those days - but their rip of charges haven't changed!

Fears grow of a global plastic meltdown - Times Online

The recent Bank of England credit- conditions survey revealed that banks were surprised by the level of bad debts run up on their credit cards in the second quarter of the year. Demand for credit cards also increased as banks tightened their lending criteria across the board.

Provident Financial has been inundated with requests for its Vanquis credit card, even though it charges a whopping 39.9% annual interest rate — more than double the industry average. The card is targeted at sub-prime consumers, and priced accordingly. Yet “prime” customers are washing up at Vanquis after being rejected elsewhere.

It seems this card is getting rather popular....

Interesting.

I have a card with Vanquis, yes the interest rate is high, yet no one else will give me a card. Mainly due to lack of history in my report it would seem as the problems I had in the past are no longer on my Experian report.

Sure they charge high interest but if I use it for a low amount and repay all each month, the interest will not affect me and it will help build my credit report.

I am actually grateful to Vanquis for this.

The trouble is MK one, it would be seen on your credit file as a sub prime card. The credit limit is about £200, do you pay any interest on this card, if you pay back in full every month?

From all of the advice I have read, a sub prime card is helpful for around 6 months, after which you can look at other cards. The way I look at it is, spend a small amount every month (£10 - £20), clear it next pay day. That way other lenders will see you are paying every month on time. It also means I do not get stung by the interest which is as you say punitively high.

In the next week, I will clear my final default so my record should begin to look better.

Hockery, Don't worry, we can talk you through it online and get you sorted. Just post here with some of the details I asked for and we will take you through it. Soon you will be banging away at that keyboard about all sorts of things and importantly, getting these financial issues sorted out- honest!! I was like that once and I am not much younger than you!

I will try and keep an eye out for you over the next couple of days and get you there.

Take care and regards, Kenny

If you have any late payment fees, overlimit fees you should claim them back.

I had a Vanquis card and what I noticed was that their interest rate was going up every 3 months without prior warning. This also managed to send me over the credit limit hence getting £12.00 charges. I did a CCA request and I discovered that the credit agreement was unenforceable. On the basis of this I claimed back the charges and told them that I wanted the interest frozen so that I could pay this card off. If they didn't do this I told them they would have to take me to court for the balance. They did agree and I have been paying back what is owed with no more interest added.

as my credit record is now clear, i decided for research to apply for a vanquish card. i telephoned them and did the application and was accepted.

they then sent me a credit agreement to sign, returned it and got the card.

even though i have a good credit record now the credit limit is £250.

no problem as i am not going to use the card.

i have had a cap 1 card for the last three years, and paid off every month, for which i am happy with.

the thing is the apr vanquish charge is extorsionate and only compounds problems for borrowers.

if you are only going to spend £50 a month and settle each month fine, if not, avoid like the plague

hi aviator, i too have a high bill with this company. is there any advice you could give me as it quite crippling.

im new to all of this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

:)

Hi

Do not use this card ever again, cut it up or use it to scrape the frost in the winter is my advice for that card.

You should send an S.A.R. (Subject Access Request) with £10 for all of your statements. When you have those, see how many charges you have, add those up onto a spreadsheet, add on Contractual Compounded Interest, and ask for the money back. You may have enough there to clear your balance.

If you need help doing the spreadsheet just shout...

SAR letter is in the Bank Templates Library, i have left some links below to assist you.

ukavaitor,

That is cheap - well relatively!

I have seen leaflets for a loan company - I think it Provident and the APR is only

a modest 177%!!!

This is now 183.2% APR!!

Provident/Vanquis still owe me big time after taking 4K of me!! (Yes Car Credit) grrr! :D
