Hi, I am hoping someone on here could at least advise me. The thing is I have been chased by a UK debt collector for a credit card debt that I had with an Icelandic bank. This original debt was with one of the failed Icelandic banks but has been moved to a now government owned bank. the original debt was about 2300 GBP but the debt collector is asking for almost 10,000 GBP. The original 2300 pound debt was raised about 3 years ago. Im now a UK resident as I pay my taxes over here. and was wondering if the debt collector could take any of my assets here in the UK or take me to court over this debt.

The ironic thing about all this is that I used to own shares in the bank that failed and lost that money as the bank went bankrupt but of course the debts went into the new bank, they never seem to loose :|

Do I have a leg to stand on if I refuse to pay the debt collector and maybe try to negotiate directly with the bank...again?

I appreciate any thoughts on this as this has been keeping me awake for many nights now,

AFAIK Iceland does not have a reciprocal agreement with the UK so they cannot take any enforcement action here.
