help please-regarding intestate-no will yet my family were informed that we were due to inherit

I hope this is the right section as this is my 1st post.

 

A family friend sadly passed away several weeks ago.

 

She was approx 80 years of age and informed my parents that she was to make a will

and they and 2 other people would also share her assets.

 

This was orally communicated by phone approx. 5 years ago and the other 2 people were also informed by phone by her.

 

Our friend led a slightly reclusive existence.

 

Upon her death we heard that there was no will.

 

A will had been made however our friend wanted to ammend it so therefore it was taken away

and a new one was never replaced with her solicitor.

 

We have reason to believe that she was adding an extra person.

 

Our friend had no family and there are no surviving blood relatives,

 

Please can you advise us on the following:

 

1) we believe the original will may still be in her house how can we obtain access to look for this and if the old will is discovered or a new one is found will this be sufficient

 

2) where can we get advice quicly, the house is located in a fairly rough area of a big UK city, it is really important that we obtain advice ASAP as it would be awful if the house was broken in to or was et on fire or something like that

 

Any help would be amazing.

you need to contact this solcitor and see what they have.

It was the day before Christmas eve when we found that out that there was no valid will,

 

do solicirors make copies of wills in a case like this ie. when the will is taken away?.

 

My mum was due to be the executor although this was only said by phone.

 

We believe it was probably a couple of years ago when the will was taken away by our friend and an updated form was not replaced.

 

I can see how this happened as she rarely went out.

 

So do you think if the old will can be found that would be valid.

 

My mother had known her for 52 years.

 

It is such a shame as obviously we were saddend by her death

yet this is causing a little upset with my parents

as they know that she would have hated to see everything go to the crown.

 

Also how can we get access quickly to get an official to search the house for a will.

 

She owned her house too.

I am just letting you know that as you haven't had any replies to your post yet, it might be better if you post your message again in an appropriate sub-forum. You will get lots of help there.

 

Also take some time to read around the forum and get used to the layout. It is a big forum and takes a lot of getting used to.

 

 

Once you start to find your way, you will soon realise that it is fairly easy to get round and to get the help you need.

 

It can be bit confusing at first.
