can anyone help please ... a few weeks ago a tv lisence man called round. im going to be honest i had no tv lisence.. but at the time he called i was poorly and not knowing who he was closed the door.. i thought he was a salesman. i found out who he was when he started shouting out the door he was calling the police. he then stopped a neighbour in the street asking my name. the neighbour didnt tell him so he guessed my name and decided my name was rebecca... not true.. i recieved a court summons and plead by post and explained how he treated me.. to cut a long story short i have a 400 pound fine but in the name he decided to guess.. i was found guilty and the demand for this cash from the court is still in the wrong name even though i gave them the right information later... how do i satand. do i pay in this name they decided to give me or do let rebecca whoever she is pay... just shows how much attention the court paid to my pleading by post

Sorry to hear that. It is a shame you didn't go to court and plead with mitigation as the fine was unusually harsh - probably because you didn't go.

You might find it better to call the court, say that you advised them of your correct name in advance of the hearing, but having now received the judgement, you find this in someone else's name. The options would appear for them to cancel the case and set it for a re-run. Or they may try to get you to admit it remains your debt and to pay it up, but if they try this I'd be surprised.
