This sounds like a basic question that everyone on a pre-payment meter needs to know

  • How can you tell from your meter how much you are being charged per unit of gas / electricity?

  • How do you check from your meter what you are paying for arrears and what is outstanding

  • How do you check that the money that you pay appears on your meter

  • How do you check that everything else is correct e.g. meter units are consistent (the cubic metre / foot [problem])

I think that we need a sticky of how to identify the meter type & how to check out what's happening

Maybe people with prepay meters can supply the information or links of howto. I did a quick google but couldn't find a handbook...

Yes good idea.

This was something we did have but it was unfortunately lost when the forums were reconstructed.

I have both for gas and electric.

I have manuals for both-which gives basic info but not comprehensive and certainly not so easy for some to understand.

Hi maryann

Best advice I can give here is to give us a call on 0845 2700 700 and speak with our Prepayment department. They will be able to talk you through the amount of gas being used and the settings on the meter. You may also be interested in looking at the energy efficiency advise on our website to see if there is anything that can be done in the house to reduce your consumption and be more efficient. Have a look at the link below:

Let me know if you have any further questions and I will be more than happy to help.

Kind Regards

Colin, perhaps you can also provide a link where members can view the information on reading a pre-payment meter and understanding the data.

Thanks.

Think I found it. If so, pages 6 and 7 give you an explanation of the display setting for ScottishPower electricity Key meters. The settings on the gas meter will be similar and you just need to navigate through each setting.

Fine for me Grumpy. It looked like it had a bit of a freak out moment when everything went weird which I've never seen before but opened after about 5 secs.

I'm using Acrobat 9.1.3 what version do you have installed? Does it happen when you try and open it in your browser or does it happen when you save the file and open it that way?

Hi Martin

I know this booklet will be full of information and figures which do not directly relate to you and will cover our customers for all different areas. Please let me know if you have any difficulty in locating your prices and I will try to post some useful information to help.

Kind Regards
