go on admit it.

dug the snow out from behind the car at 4am, roughly knee deep thought the road looked clear

reversed up

took another hour to dig the car back onto the driveway from where it was sitting wedged straight across the road.....

trying to call work now but no answer makes me wonder if anyone else is in..

Can't get out of town, local bypass is an icerink, busses running a relay system when they can, going to try when it is a bit lighter.... black ice causing lots of problems in Sutton, Surrey for busses.

No Southern Region, Southwestern or First Capital Connect trains at the moment - emergency service only.....

If I get in will I have another 4 hour journey to get back?

I don't work so I don't have that issue. My problem is that I live on top of a hill and my nearest shop is 5 miles away. I need bread and milk as a matter of urgency. Black coffee-YEEE_UCK. Might have to go and pester the neighbour who has a 4WD

It's great for kids when the schools close due to adverse weather. Not so great for the workers. I believe that some people that don't/can't get into work will not be paid.

If all else fails, kick them where it hurts and SOD'EM;)

I made it in, on a bus that was on a diverted route, leaving early this afternoon though cos local busses aren't running after dark (they don't like the black ice on bends)... mainline trains very erratic and only going part of the journey.

I've just had a generic email saying people should get in if possible, if not report to nearest place, well my nearest 'feasible place' is one which if operating will get me into work! They have accepted that I am not going to travel during the hours of darkness and are okay about it.

One good thing is it is lovely and warm in the office and I don't have to pay additional tea/coffee charges (only drink 3 cups anyway during the working day).

Hiya SG,

I'm wearing the hat you made for me, can wear alone and under another hat. I'm braving going to the Gym tnite. I've looked at the UK's ten day forecast and it seems it could all go warmer and no more snow but we'll have to see. I will get back to you about your job situation, you can update me.

No problem getting into work for me. Road I live in is like an ice rink but main roads are fine.

We can decide for ourselves if it's too dangerous to get into work but will have to make up any time lost.

Thaw set in round here but sky very grey looking, might be rain though which will make the ice even worse.

Been out and main roads all okay but side roads still dodgy, massive queues in Morrisons.

Supermarket shopping has been a nightmare today..... there was a queue round the roundabout to get into Tesco and Tesco is mahoosive!!!
