How's this for ridiculous. My daughter lives 5 miles from me but has an Ipswich postcode and I have a Norfolk post code. She gets one, I don't. I'm not complaining, just saying it is ridiculous

I was awarded Income Support from 3 Nov 2010, will I still be entitled to Cold Weather Payment? I qualify with regards to the criteria i.e. kids under 5, also shows one payment for my postcode area, but it says something about qualifying from 1st November. Will I miss out as my award started on 3 Nov?

Cold weather payments are only available between 1st November and 31st March. So long as the period of cold weather falls on a week where you are due benefit, you should be entitled to the payment.

I'm afraid not 0 IB is not a qualifying benefit for the cold weather payment.

Oh, hang on Werner - are you getting the cold weather payment mixed up with the Winter Fuel Payment?

You are of qualifying age for the WFP. So as long during the week of 20th to the 26th September this year, you were resident in Great Britain or Ireland and were not:

in hospital for more than 52 weeks previously, getting free treatment as an inpatient in custody serving a court sentence, subject to immigration control and did not qualify for help from the Department for Work and Pensions, or living in a care home, an independent hospital or Ilford Park Polish Resettlement Home (and had done so for the previous 12 weeks or more) and you were on Pension Credit, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Then you should qualify for the Winter Fuel Payment. You should have been getting this every year since you turned 60, as long as you met the conditions I've outlined.

Yes - the Winter Fuel Payment can be either £125, £200, £250, £275, or £400, depending on one's circumstances and age. The Cold Weather Payment is always £25.

Hi all,

I have been on long-term sickness benefit and have always just received Cold Weather Payments. I have just checked the Directgov website for the first time and it states that I am due two payments, however I have not received anything as of yet. Has there been a change to entitlement? Looking at the list of eligibility, I can't work out if I am entitled or not as I am single and don't have any children. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My wife has been on IB for 4 years and HRM DLA during last years cold spell but we didn't recieve the cold weather payment because we weren't on Income Support ... in truth, we didn't know we were eligible

This year, again, she's on IB, HRM and Income Support .. and just last week won her tribunal for Middle Care DLA .. Does she now qualify for the cold weather payment?
