Last Tuesday out of the blue I got a phone call from HFO Services claiming I have an unpaid debt. I had never heard of the company claiming that I owed this money to so I denied ever having the debt, which she ignored and continued to pressure me into admitting this debt. The phone rang three times that night and they also phoned my work number. I asked them to send relevant details to me. This they did and it turns out the debt is going back to 2001 and in the 8 years and 6 months that I have lived at my current address I have never heard from any company chasing the debt.

So I sent off a statute barred letter and refused to deal with them on the phone but only communicating via letters. The first letter said I had only 3 days to contact them and sure enough on the third day I got another letter this time informing me I had 72 hours till litigation starts. They still phone me at work and this morning the phone at home rang at 5:55am although I cant prove it, I am convinced it is this company.

They are already harassing me for this debt and the haste in which they are doing so obviously shows they are both unprofessional and aggressive. I have contacted the office of fair trading, trading standards and the financial ombudsman. I am not worried if they try to take me to court as I am pretty sure the law is on my side, is it ? as the debt is way over 6 years but is there any other avenues anyone can suggest to stop them from harassing me.

Thanks

Hi

Welcome to The Consumer Action Group.

I am just letting you know that as you haven't had any replies to your post yet, it might be better if you post your message again in an appropriate sub-forum. You will get lots of help there.

Also take some time to read around the forum and get used to the layout. It is a big forum and takes a lot of getting used to.

Once you start to find your way, you will soon realise that it is fairly easy to get round and to get the help you need.

It can be bit confusing at first.

Please be advised that my time will be limited for the next few weeks. Thanks for your understanding.
