Due to an error in June 2010 my tax credits were cancelled instead of just being ammended. Obviously they have been really busy over the summer etc and it has taken over 20 weeks and namerous phonecalls to get some money. I have been on maternity pay so we have been so poor and have had letters saying our house may be repossessed (they were very nice when I explained the situation but I was nearly sick when I got it!) and have acrued £495 in charges to keep ourselves afloat and to pay childcare costs.

A freind works for HMRC and said that it was not an acceptable length of time for a claim to be processed especially as they were informed several times that we had experienced severe hardship. As a result I have sent a letter to the complaints dept. I have kept in very amicable and said I know they are very busy and its no-one in particular.

So I was just wondering has anyone else complained sucessfully? Are we likely to get charges back and / or compensation or is it a waste of time and energy?
