As being part of temp agency the employers who I work for can close shop and I will not get paid. If fact the contracted workers have to reserve hoilday to cover it. Same goes for me.

 

You might get lucky where the employer might right it off but the awnser to your question is YES they can. :(

Is there a clause in the contract which allows for hours (and pay) to be varied?

 

If not, then potentially this may be an Unlawful Deduction from Wages. The contract determines a mutuality whereby there is an obligation on both parties - one to provide work, and the employee to perform the agreed duties in return. If there is no clause which entitles the employer to reduce the working hours in certain circumstances, then AFAIAA then wages should be unaffected.

Any advice given is done so on the assumption that recipients will also take professional advice where appropriate.
