Hi Everyone


I wonder if you could answer a query I have regarding my Macbook.


I bought it from PC World just under a year ago - the warranty is up at the end of November.


I had a problem with "flaring" on moving images and so took it to PC World who told me to take it to the Apple Store. They said it would need a new screen and that would take a long time given their workload and gave me the details of an authorised fixer. They fixed it in a week and all was well. Last week the screen went kaput and I went back to Apple who said the authorised fixer had obviously made an error - even leaving several screws out when they installed the new screen, and that it would need to be sent by Apple to be fixed - it will take up to a month. I really need my mac so I handed it over.


I am just wondering whether I am within my consumer rights to demand a replacement. I am concerned that the warranty will be up in a few weeks and I will not have any free cover should it go wrong again. I asked about this and the hip dude at the Genius Bar at the Apple store said "they'll be no problem fixing it even out of warranty because that's the sort of thing Apple do". All very nice but not official and not in writing - quite apart from the fact that since I've spent £700 I don't want it fixed at intervals, I want it to work so that I can rely on it.


So - do I go to PC World and ask for a replacement or do I just have to put up with this?

yes, I handed it over to the Apple Store because I really need it fixed. It was only afterwards that I started to wonder if there is anything I can do if it happens again - esp once the warranty is over

I am just letting you know that as you haven't had any replies to your post yet, it might be better if you post your message again in an appropriate sub-forum. You will get lots of help there.


Also take some time to read around the forum and get used to the layout. It is a big forum and takes a lot of getting used to.



Once you start to find your way, you will soon realise that it is fairly easy to get round and to get the help you need.


It can be bit confusing at first.
