Hi CAGer's,

We have come to a decision to sell our 2nd car which we no longer need. We have come to cancel our car insurance with the Post Office, who insist we have to pay 80% of the outstanding balance. They say that otherwise it is "short term" insurance.

Looking at the T&C's it is in black and white and admittedly we should have read this closer, but this is something that we didn't even realise we should check for. In all other cases we have cancelled insurance and received a refund.

Even if you no longer have your car is this actually enforcable? Surely this is madness!?!?! :mad2:

Any advise please?

Thanks

This has nothing to do with the Post Office, apart from branding.

It is BISL Ltd (Budget Insurance) that handles the Post Office Insurance and if you contact the Post Office they will just refer you on.

It is the practice of most Insurers to charge short term rates in this situation, however, BISL are known to make some of the highest charges.

As the terms are noted in the Insurance contract, there is not much you can do apart from pay. You could raise a complaint, but this might only delay you having to pay. BISL are known to pass unpaid premiums off for debt collection, so you need to consider this.

We could do with some help from you.

On a similar vein, I was accosted entering Marks & Spencers, to be told they now are 'an electricity company' and yould I like to change. Of course, M&S are not generating electricity, they have prostituted their brand to anyone that will pay the rate, to make money. The underlying energy company was the same one that supplies me now! What woud I be changing... the letterhead on the bills and a new tariff?

The public are being conned we have 'consuner choice' when it is the same old, same old, dressing up the same products as something else.

The PO policies you mention are nothing special, and yes - short-term policies DO cost considerably more, the change in cost, plus the policy change fee ensures it would be better to plan ahead, and sell your car when the policy runs out - not in mid term.

I would do a check and see if they have a supply licence. A M & S agent may be working in the store and selling on behalf of a supplier in orther words acting as an agent If not and they are promotoing M& S as a supplier, then they would be in very serious trouble.

I would, if I thought it would make a blind bit of difference. As it is, it would require third parties to pursue and seek redress. I've got better things to do with my time, as I don't make purchasing decisions by being accosted on the street or doorstep!

Hi All,

Thank you for your replies. But it looks as though we are saddled with paying:|

I'll let you know if I send a letter to the CEO of Royal Mail. If enough complain, someone MIGHT do something about it

Thanks again
