Hi All

IWe have just finished renting a place after nearly 2 years, before we started the tenancy we had to pay £85 for check out fees, this was a condition of the contract.

Now after check out the agent is asking for a further £54.75 originally saying that there had been a price increase and now saying that the increase is because they only charged for an unfurnished check in but the property was furnished.

2 questions

Can they demand this money?

Can they take this money off our deposit?

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Sue.

I don't think they can request this money from a contractual standpoint. You should challenge it.

Also, do you know if your deposit was placed within a tenancy deposit scheme? Ask for the name of the scheme.

If there are any disputes there is an independent process, and on the face of it they are likely to side with you.
