Hey guys!

Am a newbie here and was hoping for a little advise!

I am an iPhone user with the O2 network. I recently called up a representative from O2 regarding the internet data change that they are applying to their contracts. I was concerned being a heavy data user that I would be affected by this. The rep assured me that as I havent altered my tariff i wouldnt be affected by these changes. I thought yeah that sounds good.

Anyways I have just recieved a text message from O2 saying that my unlimited data finishes at the end of this month. So i called O2 and the lady said that I requested a tariff change in August. I realised that I called them up because all my friends have unlimited texts and i thought i was missing out. So they gave me unlimited text messages, however with no mention that she is changing over my tariff or the internet data allowance will affect me because of this. I told the rep I am now in a cache 22 situation as I would rather hte internet usage and if i had known this was the case then I wouldnt have asked for the unlimited texts. As I said she did not mention at all that they would be changing my tariff. The rep said she would credit my account with 1 months line rental but i declined.

Where do I stand guys?

Many thanks

Not good. The issue is inevitably is 'if it aint broke, don't tinker'. Like you, I have unlimited 12 months Web & Wifi, which to be is worth £10pm, and I get if for free. I'm in month 8 of 12, so I still have 4 months to go. I CANNOT change a thing, because this bundle ceased a few month back, so even new iPhone users cannot get it, so if I add something, by existing package changes. Also if I try to unlock my handset, I also lose my access to W&WiFi - so the secret it not to play around with deals that cannot be replicated.

Since the deal you were on is now not available, I don;t think there is any code CS staff could input to reactivate it (assuming they were willing to), but you'll probably find they'll be sympathetic, but the deal is off your account and will not be able to be reinstated.

many thanks for your reply!

Gosh, this doesn't sound good. However I've been thinking about it and as I havent agreed to any contract or tariff changes doesnt this make my contract null? I feel I have been totally shafted as i have not signed or agreed to anything. When I phoned and asked for the texts the rep simply said, yupp I'll do that for you now.... Thats done! Nothing about tariff change, contract change, she didnt ask me to agree to anything etc so surely they are in the wrong?

No - a Tariff has nothing to do with a contract. You'll find if you read your contract it has no call costs or service charges stipulated, as there are always expected to be variable, whereas your obligations (and theirs) will not. Your contract didn't change, and didn't have to. Surely if you plan to go abroad and wanted the 'International' option for cheaper calls, you'd be hacked off if they said you couldn't have it?

I agree it would be useful if they explained the downside, but then they are there to do your bidding, not look after your interests and point out possible downsides.
