Dont know if im on the right place but im sure i will be moved if need be....

This is what has happened........

My son in law started work for an agency over a year ago and he didnt have a bank account so his wages went into my account...

6 months ago they got their own bank account and i havnt had anything from the agency since....

I have since changed my bank card and the details (digits on card) are slightly different to the ones that the agency had.......

However i checked my account today and i had a payment from the agency..... I phoned daughter and she checked and she had been paid also..

I told my son to check with the agency and he went in to see them and they told him that yes they had paid his wages into a "closed account" intially but had sorted it.......

I dont know where or how to return the money ,,

They havnt because its still in my account.. Do i go into my bank and tell them to sort it...

If you know the remitter (the Agency), then your duty is to tell them that they've made an error. Get them to confirm that they cannot recall the money (they probably cannot), and you can send them a cheque, less your costs in doing so - say £10. Keep a copy of the letter for your own records. By doing this, you've discharged you liability.

I know who the agency is.........They have an office a few doors down from my bank... I thought i would go into my bank get a statement showing what they have done and write them a cheque there and then...What do you think?

Two thoughts. Your bank statement is your private business, and not for other eyes. Things you do yourself need corroboration, although your cheque proves you returned the money, but no guarantee a reversal will not happen. You need them to confirm they cannot reverse their error before parting with anything!
