I am currently in receipt of ESA and after my medical was placed in the work focus group, I was asked to attend meeting with an advisor to help me get back to work..........I had five meeting with a differnet person every time and when I phoned to make another appointment I was told that I had "done" my five meetings so that was that. However 6 months on I am virtually back to good health and have started applying for jobs in the last three weeks. Therefore I have two questions I would like help with as........... should I contact Jobcentreplus to let them know and stop claiming ESA and secondly seeing that my Husband just gor made redundant and is claiming JSA, I cannot afford to not have any income, will I be able to claim JSA too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If it was me I would get a job first and then tell them.

Benefits rules are complex, and although I do try to inform and support people, I may get it wrong because the rules apply to individual claimants and their particular circumstances.

Hello Pippa, welcome to CAG.

If you are now fit for work, then that is a relevant change of circumstances for ESA and you must inform them.

You and your husband will be able to make a joint claim to JSA.

My advice is based on my opinion, my experience and my education. I do not profess to be an expert in any given field. If requested, I will provide a link where possible to relevant legislation or guidance, so that advice provided can be confirmed and I do encourage others to follow those links for their own peace of mind. Sometimes my advice is not what people necesserily want to hear, but I will advise on facts as I know them - although it may not be what a person wants to hear it helps to know where you stand. Advice on the internet should never be a substitute for advice from your own legal professional with full knowledge of your individual case.
