Afternoon,

I'll jump straight in with this, I had a Halifax Credit card which I got into payment problems after losing my job in Nov 2002.

I then had an arrangement to pay until Feb 2004; where I got the account back into order.

my account was then in order until Sep 2006 when I closed the account, however the arrangement to pay is still shown as the effective reason for my rating to be low. quoted below from check my file from the Equifax report

"Payment Performance"

"You have an account with an Arrangement to Pay on your credit report"

"You have 8 accounts reported on your Equifax credit report. Of these, 6 are reported as being currently active."

"You have 1 arrangement to pay on your credit report."

Every other section of the report except the number of credit searches(which is 0) is reported as being good.

my credit card usage is at 50% which is apparently Bang on perfect to be considered credit active and the number of accounts is also apparently bang on perfect at 6, all accounts have have been operated correctly for over 6 years, I have been confirmed on the electoral roll, I have no CCJ's or Judgements or Insolvency ever.

My credit score however shows at 540 or 1 star and I am an unacceptable risk to lenders. this is still keeping my interest at stupid rates of upto 39.9% on some cards, as you can tell keeping this at 50% is costing me a fortune. I also have to rely on pay as you go mobiles or venture in higher cost mobile contracts.

can I get that record stricken from the book as the bad balance will show until Sep 2012, or do I have to wait another 2 years still. are banks doing this deliberately to make sure you pay them higher interest rates on everything you buy.

any help is greatly appreciated.

unfortunately the account will show on your file until 2012, as it is the 6 year industry standard. its obscene to think that as someone who was responsible to continue making payments you could suffer longer than someone who made no arrangement, ie you would effectively be better off having defaulted in 2002. i think you'll have to contact halifax and ask them to be removed as it is hampering your ability to obtain credit. if they refuse then slog it out down the ico route or if you need it resolved quicker, go to court.

i'd maybe think of another route depending on your circumstances. were there any unlawful charges on the account, mis-sold ppi? if so, write to halifax for a full refund. tell them you are prepared to withdraw your refund request if and only if they remove the negative data from your crf. it might work.

I already claimed back the charges on the account back in 2004, that's how I got the account back into order.

the sad thing is now I wish I had not bothered paying them anything at all. they treated me with such contempt at the time and made things so hard to sort out, then they have the cheek to punish me for 8 years.

so all you people out their, this is a lesson to learn.

don't ever pay your debts back, you will sort them out faster if you don't.

potentially I could have had a problem with an account 15 years ago and it could still be effecting my credit score, surely this goes against their own guidelines and rules.

this kind of shows how the CRA's could be adversely effecting their own business with the banks or the banks insistence on this system could and hopefully will encourage people to not pay their debts.

so for me though, the CRA has and will effect my life for a total of 10 years. if I live to 100, which I probably won't then that's 10% of my life they have taken and made me struggle with. if I take into account that I was a kid for the first 20 years then that makes the percentage even worse.

this system must be changed to only allow 6 years worth of actual data, not data that might have been stored up to 6 years ago about data over 6 years ago.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr the banks and cras

I'm starting to think that, I'm on check my file and get all 3 reports and they all have different accounts listed. one has no accounts on their but still scores me(low) the cheek of it all.
