Hello All,

I am aware that there are a lot of threads on OPC parking tickets but I can't seem to find one with the problem I have. So I was wondering if someone could advise me.

I live in a small block of flats with underground "secure" parking. Each parking space requires a parking permit which I have for mine.

After a long journey from the north to home my permit that was displayed in the front windscreen of my car became unsticky and curled up leaving it useless to display in the window (heated windscreen dried up the stickiness)

When I got home, i popped to my flat to get my spare permit, came back down no more than 5-10 minutes later and ta da..........I had a parking ticket for failing to display my permit!

Thinking OPC would be understandable about the circumstances I phoned them and then reality hit. They don't take common factors of life into consideration. Refusing to cancel the ticket, a few letters went back and forth and they still refused to budge.

Reluctantly, I sent the payment form back to them for the £50. Thinking no more of it, a week after I have sent the payment form back I have receied another letter saying that I now owe £100 for failing to pay!!!!

Threats of legal action, court etc are mentioned in the letter.

What do I do? Where do I stand?

In the first place you should not have paid them a single penny as it was an invoice and not a ticket. If they take you to court no doubt they will lose as they will have to demonstrate the losses they suffered because no ticket/permit was displayed although you did have a permit. I would actually go about claiming back the money that they have already taken and if they refuse to give it back I would take the small claims route, but that is just me. To put it bluntly you have been ripped off, robbed, financially disadvantaged which ever way you want to put it.

...ignore it as with any other PPC ticket.

The above post constitutes my personal opinion on the facts in the post compared with my personal knowledge of the applicable legislation. I make no guarantees of its legal accuracy. If you are in doubt seek advice of a legal professional specialising in the area concerned.

Oh dear. You've fallen for the [problem] once and they are hoping they can wring some more cash out of you since they've marked you as a mug who will pay.

Ignore them. They have no legal right to the money and you could even try to get your £50 back in small claims. Would take a bit of time and effort though.
