Contents claim with Aviva

I recently had a fire in my home & had to move due to being inhabitable.

 

Aviva appointed Cunningham & Lindsay to assist.

 

I was sent a letter stating that i should continue paying £100 a week rent and they would cover any other reasonable cost of temp. accomodation.

 

I work part time and get housing benefit to help cover rent. As i was no longer living im my ususal home it was cancelled. I have been paying £100 a week to fam/friends whilst staying with them.

 

Would Aviva b able to help me with this situation.

 

I have paid £900 rent and there is no way i can afford this on my income without HB, and the council wont accept this as i cant prove it is a genuine tenancy.

Speak to Aviva about this. If you get a letter from the HB people, they should look at this. You should not lose out having made the claim.

Insurers usually accept that they will pay a reasonable amount to policyholders who go to stay with friends/relatives in such circumstances. If they do not you should point out what the alternatives would have been - namely paying for you to stay in a hotel or paying for you to rent a flat/house which would probably been for a minimum 6 months lettiing period - both a great deal more expensive than what you have referred to
