Wondering if anyone knows what happens the second time you miss a signing on date? If they don't think the reason was good enough (the sanction levels I think they're called?) It was a family emergency though so I'm not sure it will even get to that stage if they accept it as a legitimate reason.

The sanction for late signing is one week now. It comes under an availability doubt but if it was a family emergency and you contacted them and they completed the relevant form before you went away then you can be treated as available under the domestic emergency rules.

I tried calling but couldn't get through so calling in the morning. Does that mean I'll definitely lose a week? This is the second time I've missed a signing on (I sign weekly at the moment) but last time was when I first started signing on weekly but got confused between an appointment and a signing on so I missed a weeks payment.

It's not an automatic sanction so it's not a definite thing. They will want to know why you didn't contact them earlier, what sort of emergency it was, etc and then a decision maker has to decide if that is a good reason for not attending.
