Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on what i can or should do.

I got a call from fredrickson international today about an outstanding mobile phone bill. The bill originally £150 has now gone up to £706! They were asking for immediate payment, which i cannot make as i am currently unemployed. The woman took payment of £27 and said they she willl give me until the 30th October to come up with £260 and the rest the following month! As i am currently unemployed i very much thought i will have that amount of money by then. Is there anything i can do?

Okay. Have you received any letters from them about this debt before now? Unfortunately it's a bit late now, as you have paid by phone, they now also have your card details but had you come here first etc this could have been avoided.

Who is the creditor, is it Vodaphone?

The charges they have added are unlawful far as I know. Therefore I was going to suggest you send the prove it letter but as you have paid them a sum not sure how to proceed now.

I certainly wouldn't talk to them on the phone anymore. I am sure there will be advice from others soon.

Best advice I can give is to immediately cancel your card, and request a replacement.

Wait until they next telephone (won't be long!) and inform them that you will only deal with them in writing.

Do not, under any circumstances pay them anything more.

Who is the original account with, and how old is the debt, ie when did the first lower amount become payable.

Ignore all the stuff they have said to you over the 'phone, I advise never to speak with them on the 'phone (that advice is for all DCAs not just Freds). They will say loads of stuff over the phone that they would never dare to put in a letter.

The amount you owe, is the original amount, ignore the added on charges.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Ok, i will cancel the card. Lucky it was only an 02 money card and it only had £30 in it anyway. Yeah the original creditor was Vodafone and the debt is from July 2009. Next time they phone i will say i will only deal with them in writing. So do i only have to pay the £150?

Thanks

I was also wondering if Lee from Vodaphone would also be useful here, I understand he's very good at sorting these things out. Something to consider anyway.

Thanks guys, i have emailed vodafone and will post the reference number on here as soon as i get it.

The debt came about when i fell behind on monthly payments, i did contact vodafone and inform them i wasnt going to meet the payment date. I didn't hear anything from until a few weeks ago when i received a letter from Fredrickson International and today a phone call to ask for payment.
