We took out a mortgage with the Halifax in 1986. They took out this 3rd party insurance and we were not given a choice.

We then took another loan out later. I am sure that they did it here too, then in 2005 we took out another loan. We have argued with them for years that we have been paying far too much, they have sent us information but have not told us in the explanations about this additional money.

we have the original letter which says it 'gives notice' of a third party insurance. Now when we have complained about the excessive payments, they had said nothing about it further down the line.

we have written argument after argument over the years and have not been informed about these payments which they will have been added to what we owe

I have a feeling that they have continued to take out other securities on our loans. At the beginning we had that notice but now dont see anything for the two further loans taken out. We would like to know how we can find out as to whether they have done this on the other two and whether we can complain and get all our charges etc back for the initial one as we will have continued to have been charged an amount for it plus interest. Our mortgage due to end 2013

There must be some way to check on this we have the name of the insurer they went with. As this would account for the high payments we are having to pay.

Can someone help us please as I know something is wrong here

Hi Makeitbetter

What you can do is send the Halifax a SAR Request with a Postal Order for £10. send it Recorded. They have 40 days to respond with all the data they hold on you.

That includes statements, letters etc, This usually covers a 6 year period, but lets see what turns up. They probably have data going back to the period when the account was opened, but they don't give that information up willingly.

Below is the SAR Request letter, this is a legal request they have to answer:-

Thanks for that we have asked for info loads of times, Not once have they referred to ppi but I have a document where they state that is what they are doing 1986. The statements dont mention this at all so they are not going to be honest and send anything which states this and they dont think we have the 1986 one either. Wen we asked for our agreements from 1986 they said they could not find it so good job we have it.

Is their no way we can get a ppi statement out of them

Hi makeitbetter

Send the SAR Request, the SAR info that you get will have all the details on the account, including all insurances that you are paying. If they hold back stuff you can refer the matter to the ICO - http://www.ico.gov.uk/ Get the ball rolling.
