I decided to quit BT and just go totally mobile, due to BT's punitive charges.

i.e I was several weeks late in paying a small bill (60 pounds) and was disconnected ...

This occured in what was a reduced time margin without my notice...it had gone from 4 to six weeks previously before that kind of action.

They then wanted reconnection fees +plus late bill fee adding another 40 plus bringing to 100 pounds..

I asked them to reconnect the line, so i could have time to get a mobile broadband then cancelled with them.

Do i have to pay these penalty charges ? Can i do what i did with the bank charges, or other debts and offer to pay the original amount, if they cannot justify their penalty fees ?

Thanks to action group

Harris vs Santander: BCOB threats below had them refund charges, donate compensation to charity and alter branch policy.

Well, BT's one of the few telecoms companies that doesn't report to CRA's, what they will do is pass the debt on to DCA's, but not a lot more than that I don't think.... You could google the BT code of practice and follow the complaints procedure set out in there, also a lot of people have had joy from emailing ian livingstone the CEO... [email protected]

If in doubt, contact a qualified insured legal professional (or my wife... she knows EVERYTHING)

Or send a cheque or postal order payable to Reclaim the Right Ltd.
