Hi

I'm just about to make a claim on my Barclays mobile insurance that I got with my current account. I've heard quite a few bad things about these types of claims with Barclays (i.e. them trying to wriggle their way out). Just wondered if anyone had any experiences to share? I dropped my phone in water, it says accidental damage is covered but there are clauses that state that they do not cover the phone if it has "Loss, theft, damage, or breakdown arising out of any wilful act or negligence of the user of the phone" or any electrical or mechanical damage caused by "Any breakdown or failure caused by placing or using the phone in a location or environment not in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions."

Grateful for any experiences others would be happy to share,

Thank you

Hi BBH,

It comes down to interpretation.

Clearly, dropping the phone in water is an accident but who's to say whether this is negligence or not. You'll only find out the insurers' views when you lodge the claim.

I've heard of many insurers saying they won't cover water-related damage claims for a mobile.

I'm moving your thread to the Telcoms forum where you should get relevant input.

:-)
