Hi. I had my paypal account was linked to my Halifax account as the primary source. I recieved an automatic subscription bill of £5 odd. However, earlier that month I had emptied all the money from my account and transferred it to my A&L/Santander account, leaving nothing in. Now today I went to check my balance, to make sure it was at £0. Instead it is -£15. This is the unpaid item fee. Because I receive my statements and messages through the website, I was not made aware of this.

It was my intention to close the account anyway, but when I rang them they told me I had to go to my local branch, which is hard for me to get to. So my question is: when I go into the branch, do you think I could contest the charge (which is obscene) and have it removed? I admit it was my fault, but I had totally forgot that paypal was linked to my Halifax account and that combined with the fact that I don't receive statements in the post meant that I did not become aware of this charge until I checked today.
