aliance&leicster take over worries old abby debts??

this is my first post, i have had my aliance and leicseter account for 2 years


today i went to my local aliance and leicster branch and paid in some money, whilst there i asked to order a new bank card, the cashier asked me if i had moved from two old address,s going back 8 years and said that the details had updated from the abby santandare take over, thing is i back then i had got into debt with the abby so i am now concerned,


i have since emptied my alliance and leicster account

can they take money from my account? is there anything to worry about?


any help would be most greatfully recieved

Yes - banks have what is called a right of set-off.


This means that they can take any money that they consider as outstanding or owing from any other money you might have in any other accounts with them and they don't even have to tell you that they are going to do it. The first you will know is when you get your statement. You did right to empty the accounts as all banks now most definitely have a "shoot first - ask questions later" approach
