I have a basic Nationwide Flex Account from when I was a very young and the address is still at my parents.

It only has a basic cash card and no overdraft. A year ago I set up a direct debit to the account as a very temporary measure for TV license. Later I moved this over to my main natwest account and forgot about it.

Anyway it seems I didnt originally move the DD quickly enough as the bank charged me as there wasnt the funds for it. Visiting parents a few weeks ago I openned an odd letter that wasnt the usual nationwide statement but was from KPR (which as far as I can tell are Nationwides in house collecters). I owe £330 made up entirely of charges from the one missed DD and months of unathorised overdraft. After calling nationwide they all orginally stemmed from the one missed DD.

I cannot afford to pay £330. Is it possible for me to claim these charges back?

Hi Ub, am I missing something here? How can you reclaim charges when you haven't paid any?

I had exactly the same problem with Natwest a couple of years ago. I wrote them a letter explaining my mistake at forgetting to cancel the dd and told them I wouldn't pay them a penny because it was their charges that made the account go overdrawn in the first place.

Not heard a thing since.
