I moved away from home about 34 years ago and recently had to go through open heart surgery. I tried to get my medical records from years ago but my doctor has never had them.

My doctor from 34 years ago has since died and the surgery no longer exists.

Can anyone tell me if there is any way I can retrieve them.Cheers

Speak to your local health board/ foundation trust to get copies of your GP records. They will probably be on microfilm somewhere, even if the sugery is not open anymore. They should have been kept. Whether they can be found is another matter! Let me know how you get on. :)

I would say go to a medical negligence solicitor (not an injury lawyer) and see what they say. There will be some local to you, but make sure they specialize in medicine. My daughter has requested her medical records (23yrs worth :O ), but they have to consult with her current Consultant first (no doubt to see if there is anything they want to hide).

More scandal than the banks methinks!

thankyou spartathisis, we have now been through 3 solicitors but as they cannot find any nursing documents they say we havent a case, we have just had my sons notes sent to us and from the date on which his head and face were damaged there are no nursing notes, they didnt even fill in a form about the accident they say in his notes that the office door was locked so couldnt get an incident form what aload of bull, im sick of our NHS lieing, they know they did wrong admitted neglect to us personally, then said the conversation had gone missing from his notes its all wrong and i wont give up till i find the truth because more people are going to get hurt and the NHS need to force their staff to speak out

thankyou very much for your kind words, i intend to get the answers, i have now gathered more evidence, as we saw our own GP this week and my son asked how he could have got this haematoma over his eyebrow, when he was sedated and paralised the doctor said your would have got this by a FALL or been DROPPED? the answer we wanted, i will not give up till they answer and tell the truth what they did wrong, they must be doing this all the time and think they can get away with it well they cant and they wont, i will expose this hospital to the press and when they see the pics we have of my son in their ITU in that tate, they will want to run and hide i have never seen any one look like my son did being in ITU, his scars resemble a motor bike accident, its really bad, and he needs answers why he looks like this but thank you again Celticbadboy for those kind wordsx
