Headboard size question

Hi All

 

I know this is a silly question but here goes. Headboards come in 4 Foot and 4 Foot 6" sizes.

 

However, the width of my bed is in-between these sizes, its about 4 foot 4". What do I do?

Can't you put up with an inch sticking out at either end ?

Oh Maro, I have just worked out why this is a stupid question. Sticking out is fine I was worried that it wouldn't fit onto the attachments. However, I take it that a 4 and a 4 4" would both still fit the attachments.

Actually it much more realistic than you think. We had a furniture shop which sold beds and headboard. Sometimes due to space limitations customers would have to get a "Custom" made bed adjusted either in the width or length to fit the space they needed. Now the bed was sorted we would than have to get them made a custom sized headboard. It occurs more often than you would think and you will probably find more smaller shops are able to source custom made for you instead of the big brand names who only sell what they have.

 

For all those who dont know a small single is 2'6", a standard single 3' a double 4'6" and a king 5', superking 5'6" (plus occassionally you have a queen 4'). All have the same length think 6'3" or 6'6".

 

Never assume that a bed is just standard as can you be caught out ALWAYS use a tape measure and dont forget about the space a skirting board takes up especially in a small box room, some wont take a normal length bed.

 

Good luck and never feel silly to ask as its only when you ask you can find the answer.

go back to the shop where you bought the bed from and tell them your problem, unless you have now sorted out, very good question anyway.

we had a similar situation a few years ago, went back to the shop, and they had sold us a bed, with a different headboard, wrong size, took it back, and had to re-order the correct one, and got about a week later.

True for the UK. Beware if you buy bedding from the USA. There a 5' bed is a queen and a 6' is a king. Some of mainland Europe is also starting to use these definitions.
