In November 2008, I ordered my wedding dress from The Bridal Gallery in Coventry, and was assured it would be with me in good time for my wedding (which is on 20/8/10). I was told it would be ordered in the new year as it wasnt needed for 18 months, so I just sat back and waited a while happy in the knowledge all was being taken care of in plenty of time.

I sent the owner of the shop an email in the early part of this year as during that time, even though I had spoken to the lady in the shop several times and been reassured the dress would be here 'in good time' I still hadnt been given a date of when it would be in the shop.

I finally got the below response after further emails being sent to her and phone calls being made:

'because your dress isn't needed until August, it won't be with us until well into the new year. We wouldn't even want it before April, If you want to pop into the shop and try our sample on again you're more than welcome - it would be good to see you again.

 

 

We'll be in touch as soon as we've got it, unless we see you before.'

When I got in touch in March of this year asking to try on the sample again, as stated above, I got this response:

I'm afraid we're no longer carrying the sample of your dress. I'm sorry, you're just going to have to wait until your arrives. We're still looking at a May/June delivery.

 

I got in touch yet again at the end of June as I still hadnt heard a thing off the shop, and finally spoke to the owner who said the dress would be available for me to try on on 7th August... This then leaves approximately 6 working days to do any alterations required and for me to have a second fitting and possibly yet more alterations before I need to pick up the dress on 19th August at the very very latest as I am getting married on 20th.

 

I also have recently started a new job so cannot take off any extra time to go for fittings etc as am taking mroe time off than Im allowed already for the wedding and honeymoon so it will be virtually impossible to get to the shop on says other than a Saturday (I have 1 saturday left after the 7th August until the wedding date)

 

I am deeply concerned that this has not been handled appropriately and it is causing myself and my family a lot of distress as its the only thing relating to the wedding that has not been completed

 

I find it impossible to believe that this work will be done to a high standard, yet the owner of the shop believes this is more than an adequate amount of time. I would like to know what my rights are to complain about the lack of service from this shop, especially as wedding dresses arent exactly something cheap you buy every day.
