Yes countmein it does need doing. I don't think I can contribute myself because I'm on IB (or I was until I got screwed bt Atosh) but I think we should keep bumping this thread up.

Benefits rules are complex, and although I do try to inform and support people, I may get it wrong because the rules apply to individual claimants and their particular circumstances.

I've heard on the grapevine that ATOSh are going to give their "slant" in defence of the WCA tomorrow in the Guardian - "Comment is Free" section.

Hi all,

This is just to let you all know that Atos will be writing an article re ESA medicals from their point of view on the GUardian - Comment is Free tomorrow. I think we should all make below the line comments to let Atos know just what we think of their medicals. As it is going to be on a national newspaper website it would be brilliant if anyone with bad experiences can go below the line to refute what I am sure will be a pretty ridiculous cover up of an article.

Also of course if an article gets a lot of comments it will get front page on Cif too. Can someone who has a password for the carerwatch campaign forum give the guys on there a heads up too?

Cheers.

There's also an interesting piece today condemming these sham medicals:

Sorry I've been out of touch for a week but I've been unwell again with depression and booze trouble.

Best wishes, LR.

ATOS COSTS APPROX 100 MILLION POUNDS PER ANNUM!!!

TAKEN FROM ' THEYWORKFORYOU' WEBSITE...THIS IS A WRITTEN ANSWER IN PARLIAMENT FROM CHRIS GRAYLING YESTERDAY...

er of State (Employment), Work and Pensions; Epsom and Ewell, Conservative) Following open, competitive tender, the Department for Work and Pensions re-awarded Atos Origin IT Services Ltd, trading as Atos Healthcare, a new contract to perform medical services on behalf of the Department from 1 September 2005. The total cost of these services amounts to approximately £100 million per annum. This figure not only covers the total number of examinations undertaken across all benefits, but also costs relating to written and verbal medical advice, fixed overheads, administrative costs, investment in new technology and other service improvements.

Thanks HB and ee-bee for your much needed support, I'm a man aged 53 and I'm sitting here blubbing like a baby. I'll wipe my tears, somehow make it to the shop for alcoholic oblivion while my mind recovers enough for me to fight another day.

All my love to you, LR.

I've lost good friends to alcohol and I'm lucky enough to be able stop drinking all together (or unlucky enough to have to stop).

It worries me when someone is problem drinking, I know where it goes.:( I'll second callumsgran on that. Please take it easy Paul.

Would anyone like to spell-out to me why the Tories are being so draconian? Does it please their followers? I can't see how they would get rich by being a'holes.

Do they just appear to be nasty? :x

Are we supposed to admire them for being forthright?

Or is it just me being a freaking loony nutbar?:D

Thanks dj and callumsgran, I'm weaning myself back off with weaker and less booze. I think I was having a hypermania phase - I'll be back on my feet and fighting for the cause in a short time - all thanks to the support I've received today from the ESA club and caggers.

Massive hugs to everyone, LR. hug.gif

What they're up to (HMG) is creating a narrative of "undeserving poor" in order to divide and rule public opinion. Next step is the return of the Victorian workhouse.

For people who can't access PDF on their computer, the same information is in the attachment, minus the graphs (figures) - they won't show up on the word doc.

Thanks for posting this, Countmein. It is vitally important that people respond in vast droves. It's no use having the opinion that they won't "do" anything - yep, they might well not, but ask yourselves - have you really got anything to lose by submitting your reponses? If you don't do anything, then they definately won't do anything.

Come on folks, a few moments of your time. Please. This may well be a good opportunity. Let's not waste opportunity that comes this way if it means potential change for the better.

Been away for a while but will definitely be responding to this tomorrow.

OH had rare neurological problem and was called back within a year for a second medical, even though was in hospital dying at the time.:x

So it will be my priviledge and absolute pleasure to provide evidence for this enquiry.

Hi everyone on ESA/IB/DLA

There is an Independent Review of the WCA going on from 28/07/10 to 10/09/10 and (here I overcome my cynicism briefly)...we might be in with a chance of changing the system for the better.

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has asked Professor Malcolm Harrington to undertake an independent review of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and make recommendations on the future development and efficacy of the WCA.

Individuals and organisations are invited to send evidence and to participate in recommending how changes may be made for the improvement of the WCA

The DWP website page containing the "Call For Evidence" is at:

http://www.dwp.gov.uk/consultations/

The actual "Call For Evidence" Adobe pdf document can be viewed, printed or downloaded at:

http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/work-cap-ass-call-for-evidence.pdf

Anyone interested in submitting their own experience of the Atos Healthcare WCA can do so and answer Professor Harrington's 7 Questions in writing (address given in document) or by e-mail to:

[email protected]
