Hi everyone

Im hoping someone can help me

My mum is currently on holiday in America and my brother was driving her vehicle.. The car is insured in my mums name and he believed the fully comp policy on his own car covered him to drive that vehicle but apparently that was not the case. He is 19 years old, not sure if his age restricted him from driving other cars Third Party?

The car has now been seized and impounded.. My mums not back until Thursday which 5 days and an extra £100 on top of the £180 he has to pay! My dad has agreed to take the car out of the pound.. But I was wandering if his policy would permit him to drive the vehicle? As i understand it, his policy should allow him to drive any car third party as long as the vehicle is insured

Is this right? Will he be able to drive the car out of the pound providing we have written authority from my mother?

i would appreciate any advice as soon as possible as time is ticking! thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Faz

Drivers with comp insurance used to, pretty universally, have DOV on their policy. More recently this feature has become somewhat restricted, especially for young drivers. I am therefore not surprised your brother's policy doesn't have it on, I will be equally surprised if your father's doesn't (assuming he has been driving for a good few years)

Thanks for the quick reply crem

I will have to double check with my brothers insurance to see if he can DOV. As you said, this probably wont be the case as he is under 25 and insurance companies are funny about that.

My fathers policy most definitely has a DOV, he has been driving for over 20 years and has a clean license. But will the police pound be satisfied with that and let him take the car? or will he need to be insured on the car himself?

Once again, thank you very much for the reply

you wont need written authority just a proof of who he is [its my wifes car] and a copy of his policy showing its dov.

thats what happened to my brother at easter same thing.

please don't hit Quote...just type we know what we said earlier..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

Some where on your insurance cert it will state that this certificate cannot be used to release a vehicle with a different vrm or something along the lines of it. I would check my insurance policy. Or alternatively take out a policy for a month third party and use that to secure the vehicle. Trust me but b4 you do anything check your insurance certificate.

So whats cooking today ?
